For those of you who weren't members of this forum's predecessor, the Yahoo Group, then my name is Ben Brown (I will sort my profile out shortly). I have been trying to create a focal point for guitarist who play or aspire to play like Mark Knopfler. Those of you how have made the move from the Yahoo Group nice to see you . Ok, starting this forum maybe be a bit like starting a new toilet roll, awkward and clumpy, but given a little time and effort we should have reams of useful 2 ply MK talk to allow us to clean up our guitaring and leave the toilet satisfied .

In fact, my name isn't a german one ) At the advanced age of 40, I have restarted to play guitar after too many years of inactivity (don't know why I didn't touch any guitar for nearly 20 years, I must have been crazy). Well, now I am hooked on it again, I have dusted off my old but dear Hohner Arbor MXJ (Strat type, HSS) and got myself a Takamine western guitar (cutaway, with integrated pickup). Sure, I have to practice a lot (who doesn't?) but now I LOVE it (as a kid I hated it, who didn't?). Next major investment: A Paula! A friend of mine has a Hagström Ultra Swede, very nice! All the best, G. PS: I forgot: MK is #1 !!!!!

Anyway,nice looking new home.

I've been a fan of MK since the day that I first heard "Sultans of Swing" on the car radio, driving through downtown Portland Oregon. I thought to myself " THAT'S a hit song!". Posts: 1 (26/08/2009 03:58:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	hi! i'm a DS/MK fan from Portugal, i've been playing guitar for some time but i never learned MK's finger picking style properly. i tend to use the plectrum a lot and in fact i'm kinda tired of the way i play. i believe that if i learned to fingerpick like MK, i would start playing 24/7... it's so addictive :) so i watched your youtube channel and i realized that those lessons could help me a lot :) so here i am... cheers!

A few days ago I found this forum, I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon it, I think through YouTube and other great MK sites like Ingo Raven's MK blog. I've already spent hours looking through the threads here and you guys have gathered quite a lot of information here about MK's playing style that has helped me out a lot. This really seems to be the meeting place for the all the Knopfler guitart player enthusiasts which is great because it's the perfect place for me! Nice to see a fellow Austrian (gianluca67) here in the forum, I live south of Vienna. I haven't been playing guitar for that long (4 1/2/ years) but a few weeks ago, after starting to listen to DS & MK excessively and almost exclusively again, I started with the MK fingerstyle technique and it's coming along quite well. It is really a completely different experience to play that way as opposed to using a pick. Well I guess I'll see you guys around! Cheers
