Ok, this sng isnt an MK song, but I play it all with the fingers, and tried to get a Knopfler type distorted sound. Unfortunately, the compression on the DvD
camera seems to have taken away a lot of the guitar sound, especially through the vocals.! Its an EC Fender Strat through a Fender Bassman amp. Also, the guys
head kind of covers my guitar completely!! Oh well. It was a debut gig, band hasnt really warmed up there, one of the first songs, and I think we were all
nervous as hell!

Shame we can`t see the guitar - but i dig the Cold Chiesel tone - one of their best recorded songs, i love that guitar sound!

Its a cover.. there is actually a great solo in the original but its one of those songs I think sometimes we shy away from doing the solo.. better to do a band
version than try to replicate it!

The amp.. well, there is a story.. it was about 9 years ago I got it, and at that time I had stopped playing in bands, was kinda weary of it all. Cut a long
story short, I got the Fender Bassman for $40 because it had a blown valve.. got it home, head and bin ( 2 x15inch Celestions! ) and it was fine for awhile
then the valve blew.. so it was more or less an ornament.. anyway, once things went well in this band I took it to an amp guru and got it fixed.. its pretty
awesome.. its a 1967 blackface Fender Bassman. Once it warms up, and if your lucky enough to get it over 5 on the volume ( it only goes up to 10 not 11 ) then
it sounds pretty amazing.. lots of thickness, great tone, I use 10 - 57 strings, because in the past my amps always sounded thin.. I`m actually considering
going down to 8`s with this one.. I have always used an OD1 Boss overdrive but recently its got very noisy, so I spent an enjoyable hour at the music store
trying out various pedals with my guitar ( had just got it setup ) and as much as I am ashamed to say it on this forum I bought a Vox Satchurator.. Yes, thats
the Satriani one.. The reason I bought it was because on its lowest setting, with the Clapton Strat, there is little if any distortion when you caress the
strings.. then when you hit them hard.. you get that sound..Also, because the Clapton is active, you turn up the boost and it basically increases the output on
the pickups 17 times of single coils..Without pushing the Volume to much, then it sings with awesome sustain. On that clip I`m using the front pickup, actually
my favourite of all.
And yeah, the venue is good, the woman that runs it has no idea of what that place could be though.. |
