Yeah - Alchemy shows DS and MK at their peak, IMHO - it was hearing this album on the radio that made me want to play guitar, the versions of Sultans and
Tunnel of Love are the stand-outs for me, as well as Once Upon a Time in the West. In fact it is all amazing with the whole band contributing and a great
atmosphere that comes across well on screen.
I'm surprised its not available on DVD (I still have it on VHS!) - a less honest man than me might suggest heading for a torrentz site near you ;-) |

Having viewed Alchemy a few times now (thanks Jake *wink*) - Mark was really into his staccato/chicken type licks, i just love it. Still praying for an
official release one day... i`m imagining a beautiful big boxset with behind the scenes footage, interviews, Dire Straits bar towel, genuine Knopfler
fingernail........ you know what i mean!

Great stuff Jake. Solid performance there ;-)
I don't think a DVD will ever get release of Alchemy live unfortunately. My fav live performance by far. As Jake says, great atmosphere. The On the Night performance seems too polished and the stadium crowd too distant atmospherically speaking. Feels more like DS are going through the motions and probably too confortable in performing live if that makes sense. The later DS were like a small coffee shop that had turned into a Starbucks chain. Ultimately a consistent and good product but lacks the intemacy and atmosphere that it used to offer when they were starting out.
